Roll-Em Up… What is all the fuss about?!
Updated: Oct 15, 2022
Roll-Em Up Taquitos finally opened at 5949 Broadway Blvd, Garland, 75043. They are near I-30 & Broadway in the shopping center on the corner next to GameStop. I have seen people going in and posting reviews, some with pictures and videos, some with none. I love them all…but I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about. So, the hubs and I, along with two great friends of ours went on a lunch outing to test the waters, so to speak.
First, when we got there there were not very many people. However, that quickly changed. Within the 30 minutes or so that we were there chatting the place went from one table full to packed and people standing waiting for their taquitos. That is awesome to see for a new business!
Before I went to order, I wanted to chat with the manager and get an idea of what I could or could not eat; since I do not eat meat. Living in Texas sure does limit your options. But not here! I spoke with Lawrence and this is what I found out as far as menu options for vegans and vegetarians.
First, all food is cooked in the same oil - so nothing is going to be vegan that is fried.
The beans have bacon in them, so that is a no-go.
Lawrence went on to explain that they did have vegetarian options! Yes! Ok, now I am excited. They have a potato taquito and a cheese taquito, the corn in a cup has no meat, the guac [no meat], and the rice has no meat. Excellent, I know what I want now. So, I go to order.
That menu board is placed in an odd location. When you walk in the door, you walk past the area where they are preparing the food, to the beginning of the line, where you find the cashier, register, and the menu…I still think if the menu were at the front of the restaurant where you enter that would make it easier for customers to look at the menu, decide what they want, and make ordering more efficient. But, not my monkey, sort of thing…
Between my husband and I ordered; the bill was $45 and some change. Emma took our order and she was in training, but she was fabulous and super nice. I could tell she knew what she was doing and she did it with a smile! We got a 3 taquito pack for me, a 5 pack for him, water, a soft drink, rice, guac, corn, and a churro donut.
Here are the results:
Potato taquito - very good, this was my favorite
Cheese Taquito - good, but not as good as the potato. I think it had to much cheese with the cheese inside and on top
Chicken Taquito - hubs said it tasted okay, nothing to write home to mom about
Shredded Beef - hubs said this was very good, not spicy at all
Rice - Phenomenal! I loved this!
Guacamole - Not a fan, I thought there was something spicy in it. I could not put my finger on what it was
Corn - Phenomenal! Not spicy at all and it was very creamy
Churro Donut - This was a big no! Tasted by 2 people and both said, No, not again
The big questions I always get asked:
Will I go back: Yes
Will I recommend them to others: Yes
