He Is on My Side

How often do you hear that God is on your side? Especially when you are having a particularly rough day and your friends are religious or churchgoers. It seems like this is a go-to phrase half of the time. I used to not even think twice about it when someone said it to me. That is until I came across Psalm 118: 6-7 and I really thought about it when I read it.

Psalm 118: 6-7 NIV

6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.

What can mere mortals do to me?

7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.

I look in triumph on my enemies.

When you read through the Bible at a fast pace and you really do not take in the verses and analyze the verses, this is an easy one to breeze right past. I know because I did it several times. However, once I really sat down and read each line it became clear to me. The way verse six puts my fear back in my own lap is amazing to me. Because this is exactly where it needs to be. I have fear practically all of the time because my anxiety is so bad. But if I look at it as this verse instructs me to then there is no reason for me to be afraid. Because the Lord is with me and protecting me at all costs so mortals cannot do anything to me. This is continuously true in verse seven where it states that the Lord is my helper. If I really sit down and accept that and own it then I realize the Lord is my helper and I do look in triumph on those that are against me.

These are two very short verses but they have a huge meaning behind them. Especially to someone like myself who battles anxiety and fear on a regular basis. I have been diving into God's word more and more to try and combat my anxiety and try and put it to bed. I have seen improvement. I just hope that others have seen improvement as well. This blog is not a cure-all for my anxiety of course. However, it is something for me to go back to in reference.

Until next time.
